Social Fabric No. 1

Material: textile over oil paint
36” × 24”

About the Work

We are integrated with our environment and are part of the larger social fabric. As such, our lives are woven with each other’s. Having a place to retreat to, such as a home, is therefore integral. In Social Fabric No. 1, the use of quilting, fabric pieces, and thread over an oil painting represents that notion of connectedness. Those who are out in the cold or left in the periphery, and are homeless, are like the loose threads that require our support most.
