Beth Conklin

From Untitled Series

Material: oil on photographs
24” × 14”

About the Work

This triptych — part of a larger series and body of work — is composed of, or based on, photographs that I took of burned buildings. I began to paint on these small photographs, responding intuitively to their imagery and experimenting with the interplay between shape and surface. A fictive kind of emotional or psychological space emerges through the painting process, maintaining a reference to the burned architecture itself.
