About the Work
East Don Camp Site is the first in a series of photographs shot by pitching a tent in one of Toronto’s City Wards. As Toronto gets more and more urbanized, we become less connected to the land within our city. Through the use of black and white film shot in soft focus, I hope to reference the journey the City has travelled to get to where it is now, and how far we still have to go on the journey to make our City livable for all..
About the Artist
Michael Brown is a Toronto-based visual artist whose work raises issues around the use, history and ownership of public space. In the spring of 2008 Michael paddled across Toronto using its rivers, streams and Lake Ontario. His Urban Canoe Trip started at Finch and Highway 427 on the West Humber River and finished ten days later on the Rouge, north of Highway 401.
