Sleeping

relief print

About the Work

Of all the forms of shelter around us, one of the most dispiriting ones I see is the sleeping bag or blanket lying on a city sidewalk—either abandoned or with a person sleeping under it. The sheltering duvet shown in Sleeping is at the beginning of its life on the street, still bright and clean.

About the Artist

Margaret Rankin is a landscape architect by training and an artist by inclination. Her block prints are inspired by the world she sees around her—the shapes of trees, the texture of rocks, the colours of the earth and the man made environment. The resulting prints are a combination of observation and imagination.
