Shelter
acrylic on canvas
24" x 30"
About the Work
'Shelter' refers to more than a basic structure or building that covers or provides protection. It can also mean: a place of refuge; protection from the weather; shelter from abuse, both physical and emotional; shelter from natural disasters and lack of clean water and air; and more.
Shelter is a place of not just protection but health and well-being. Shelter depicts not only home and community but leaves, roots, water, food and all the goodness of the earth.
As the Rolling Stones say, "Gimme Shelter"; give me life. It is all people's and all living things' right to shelter and a place to call home.
A home is where the heart is, as the saying goes. It doesn't have to be large and expensive, just where one feels safe and able to be oneself.
The home in the environment of Shelter makes me feel happy and free and secure.
About the Artist
Eva Lewarne was born and raised in Poland and currently lives in Canada. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, Eva has exhibited internationally to great acclaim.
Eva paints energetically and intuitively, to avoid thinking until a piece feels finished, whereupon she looks to see what is there, as surprised as anyone else.
