About the Work
Haven Cushions is part of Julie's line of home accents that she is currently developing, which also includes lighting, upholstery and bespoke wallpapers. These pieces focus on clean design to exude an authentic handmade quality. Sophisticated colours and intricate textures draw the viewer into the work— forging an intimate relationship and adding character to a space. The result is a contemporary collection designed to either subtly enhance or dominate a room, which in turn creates a home environment that is both distinctive and inviting.
About the Artist
Julie Laschuk graduated from the Textile Design Program at Sheridan College in 2008 and is currently a full-time artist-in-residence in the Textile Studio at Harbourfront Centre. She is in the process of launching her own company—Manor12—which focuses on handmade textiles for interiors. Julie also has her B.F.A. in Dance from York University. Julie has always strived to make her environment a place of beauty and balance. With a focus on warmth, comfort and elegance, she makes textiles for interiors as a way of achieving that goal. Through collage, hand-printing and embroidery techniques, she is inspired by the textures and colours that unfold. Drawing from these discoveries, she creates her own stylized imagery and interprets it through the same hand processes; thus coming full circle.
