Visions of Shelter

digital print, photography, found materials
16.25" x 20.5"

About the Work

Visions of Shelter was inspired by our class discussion about the universal importance of shelter. Students shared their thoughts about the different shelters that people may have in Canada. If you look at the art piece from further away, you can see red dots creating a familiar symbol for a shelter—a house. Once you step closer and examine each eye separately, you will be exposed to different visions of what a shelter might look like.

About the Artist

Fern Avenue Public School, Grade four students were each asked to design and build their personal idea of a shelter. They used various materials such as plasticine, feathers, wood, straws and popsicle sticks in their constructions. For the final piece, each student's art was photographed and superimposed on a close-up image of their eye.
