About the Work

Caterpillars seek shelter in the elements of nature to protect and comfort themselves through their transition. Shielding themselves in a cocoon, they mature and emerge a butterfly.

Like these creatures we also go through metamorphosis in our lifetime. We start in our Mother's womb in a shelter, are born, and continue to grow. We go through many stages and transformations in our lives depending on the elements we encounter.

About the Artist

Ange Yake is a Canadian textile designer specializing in digital design, and an honours graduate from the Textile program at Sheridan College.

When working with fabric, Ange's creative use of surface texture adds an element of intrigue to her work, while her layering of fabric and stitching adds colour and depth. Texture has been fashioned into her fabric designs through the use of complementary rich colours by combining diff erent materials with printing.
