About the Work
I find my inspiration from every day life. My central focus is on body art, tattoos and alternative trends. My work is contemporary, decorative and functional art. I'm very pop-culture influenced and attracted to bright bold colours with dark overlay or backgrounds. With these hues I use familiar images as my objects and create in series. In this way, I imbue the images with more meaning and provide the viewer a different way to view ordinary objects.
About the Artist
Rachel Martin was born in Georgetown Ontario. She started her artistic endeavours in the visual arts until she came cross the fashion design program at Georgetown District High School. After finishing high school, her interests returned to the visual arts and expanding her art education. Finding herself wanting to work with new materials, she discovered the Craft in Design glass program at Sheridan where she is currently finishing her last year.
