The Visit
polyester plate lithograph
About the Work
The Visit is one in a series of three prints and is based on an original photograph I took while I was teaching visual arts at the International School of Trieste in Italy. It speaks of tragedy and unexpected events. When I think of homelessness, I often think of what could drive someone to live on the streets. This work is a metaphor for the physical and psychological events that could result in despair and ultimately homelessness. The door is open to connect with the audience and invite them to experience this chaotic and possibly tragic event. It also warns us that we could one day find ourselves in this same world. We can all react and reflect on this image, and the lack of shelter and comfort which we often take for granted.
About the Artist
Andrea Lambert was born in 1976 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At age 13 her parents moved to Toronto where she has lived ever since. After a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from York University she obtained her degree in Education, specializing in the Visual Arts at the University of Toronto. She currently works for the Toronto District School Board as a visual arts teacher.
Andrea's themes range from social commentaries to autobiographies. Her recent body of work compromises a series of expressionistic images based on childhood memories, and more recent memories dealing with the immigrant experience and the search for identity.
