About the Work
Shelter is a basic necessity that is required before any true progression can be made. It is impossible to take on the world's many problems if you are cold and alone, with no place to sleep. Shelter can be a sanctuary, providing us with security, and allowing us to grow.
About the Artist
Janelle Guthrie, a textile and fibre artist living in the Toronto area, is a graduate of the Craft and Design program at Sheridan College. Her interest and concern for the environment heavily influence all of her creations, encouraging her to draw inspiration from her surroundings. Janelle enjoys working with natural fibres such as silk and wool, and incorporates recycled and unwanted textiles into her work whenever possible. Janelle uses materials in unconventional and unique ways while incorporating ancient techniques such as felt making. All of her pieces are hand made and one of a kind, each beautifully designed with a specific theme in mind.
