About the Work
Rest signifies both a place and a state of mind in which we allow ourselves the time to reflect and to feel a sense of calm and safety in doing so.
About the Artist
Michelle Gibson's photographs are shot without preconception, enabling even an untrained eye to see her subjects in their unguarded state. In her photographic series, viewers feel the motif running through the expedition. Originally from Toronto, Michelle's photographic journey started accidentally when given a camera as a birthday present. Michelle's schooling in photography accompanies her BA in Psychology. Her personableness has earned the trust of her subjects, and that interplay is pivotal to her favourite subjects - people. Returning to her hometown of Toronto, Michelle has embarked on an editorial photo career. Her favourite photographers whose work inspires her are Sally Mann, Cindy Sherman and Duane Michals along with other artists such as Frida Kahlo and Gerhard Ricter. Rest signifies both a place and a state of mind in which we allow ourselves the time to reflect and to feel a sense of calm and safety in doing so.
